Niels van Gijn grew up in Africa and Asia where he gained an abiding passion for travel and exploration.
A trained graphic designer, Niels took a career break to manage luxury safari camps in Botswana's Makgadikgadi Salt Pans. The startlingly wild Kalahari desert inspired him to develop his photographic skills and provided a rich vein of subject matter. He and his wife, Emma, spent 6 months driving overland from Cape Town to the UK photographing each of the 23 countries that they passed through.
Now based in Marlborough, Niels and Emma run a graphic design, marketing and photography agency, serving a variety of travel industry and other commercial clients.
Niels and Emma’s photographic trips now include their two young children, who accompany them as they photograph some of Africa’s most iconic hotels and lodges. They have now photographed over 50 of Africa's lodges, establishing themselves as some of the leading hotel photographers in the safari industry.
